Severe acne should not be
ignored.  Permanent scarring can
occur if acne is not treated
correctly.  In addition to the
physical maladies, acne can also
create self-esteem problems in the
ever so vicious world of
teenagerdom.  You should see a
dermatologist if you follow proper
skin care and acne continues to be
a serious issue.  Doctors can
prescribe some pretty miraculous
drugs that work far more effectively
than home treatments and
remedies.  A visit to the doctor is
well worth it if your acne is out of
control.
Whiteheads are created when your sebaceous
glands and the surrounding pores become clogged
with undesirable oils and grime.  Pus builds up and is
trapped under the skin’s surface causing the whitish-
yellow whitehead.  The best way to avoid whiteheads
is to follow good long term skin care using gentle
washing on a regular basis.  Once you get a
whitehead, the best way to get rid of it is to continue
your skin care program, avoid touching it with oily and
dirty fingers and try over the counter medications until
you find one that works for you.  Never pop or poke a
whitehead.  Good luck in your war against whiteheads.

Long Term Skin Care
Following some simple guidelines is the best way to
avoid whiteheads over the long haul.  Wash your skin with
gentle cleansers twice a day, every day.  Do not use harsh
soaps and exfoliants as they can irritate your skin,
damage your pores and worsen your condition.  Avoid
touching your face with oily fingers and never, never apply
oil based cosmetics to your skin.
Every common sense expert will tell you to refrain from popping your
whiteheads.  Popping can only lead to trouble.  Touching your skin adds
unwanted oil and grime from your hands that can worsen your skin problems
and cause infection.  Popping can also damage your pores and glands leading to
worse acne.
Popping Whiteheads
The Argument for No
A Rather Long, Tedious Whitehead Video
Whiteheads are a subset of the fun filled world of acne.  You get whiteheads the same
way you get blackheads, pimples, zits, cysts and other skin blemishes.  All these
conditions are caused by clogged pores that cause sebum oil to be trapped in the
sebaceous gland.  Sebum is a beneficial oil produced by your body to protect and
moisturize your skin.  However, when it is trapped inside a blocked pore it builds up and
can get contaminated and infected.  When this nasty concoction escapes and reaches
your skin surface it oxidizes and turns black.  These are blackheads.  When the pus is
completely trapped it festers below the surface and becomes the dreaded whitehead.

Popping Whiteheads - The Argument for Yes
Human nature being what it is, most of us will
want to pop our whiteheads out of existence.
Please use extreme caution if you are going to go
the with popping route.  Clean everything.  Clean
your face with very warm water before embarking
on your mission.  Clean your hands with
antibacterial soap.  Clean the pricking needle with
alcohol.  Use sterile gauze pads to wipe away the
oozing pus.  Never squeeze so hard that you will
leave bruising on your skin.  You know what?
Popping is a hugely bad idea.  Don’t do it.  Refrain.
Use some self control.  Be strong.
There are a myriad of products available for treating
whiteheads and other mild acne problems.  Common
ingredients are benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid,
resorcinal and sulfur.  Benzoyl peroxide is an
antibacterial the destroys and stops the growth of
acne causing bacteria.  Resorcinal, sulfur and salicylic
acid break down whitehead pus inside and along the
sides of the clogged pore.  Different people will have
different successes with these products so a
trial-and-error approach should be employed to find
the product that is most effective for you.
