Carpenter Ants vs Termites

Carpenter ants are often mistaken for termites.

Carpenters ants and termites are often confusedYou can easily tell them apart by looking at them closely. Carpenter ants are all black.

Carpenter ants have bent antennae (termites have straight antennae) and they have different-sized wings (termites wings are all the same size).

Finally, carpenter ants have very narrow waists.  Carpenter ants can cause serious damage to the woodwork of your house and getting rid of them is not always the easiest thing to do.

Listerine Gets Rid of Mosquitos

Mosquitoes are repelled by the smell of Listerine Original formula.

Mosquito

Yes, it’s true.   Store brands will work too.  It seems the trick here is to purchase the original formula.

Combine the original mouthwash formula with water in a spray bottle — one part mouthwash to four parts water.

Spray the outside area you will be using and the mosquitoes should stay away for hours.

Boiling Water and Maggots Don’t Mix

Boiling maggots brings up ethical implications.

Maggots

A handful of maggots doesn't look appealing.

Maggots are easily eradicated using some pretty simple techniques.  One quite effective technique is to simply pour boiling water on maggots.

Maggots are not fast moving and they are sitting ducks for any kind of human torture.  Think of yourself as a regular James Bond villain as you insidiously pour boiling water on the maggots.

Death is instantaneous — pity the maggots.

The Crazy Way to Get Rid of Bed Bugs

Dismantle your bed?  You’ve got to be nuts.

Bed Bug Infestation

Bed bug experts suggest that you take your bed apart and inspect every component for bed bug infestation.  Crazy, huh?  Who in their right mind would take on the arduous task of dismantling a bed?

Well, think about it.  If you were being bitten by blood-sucking bed bugs, wouldn’t you become a bit crazed?  Of course you would.

So maybe it’s not so zany.  Check your linens first, then the mattress pad, then the mattress.  Look for the bed bugs themselves.  Also look for light brown skins shed by bed bug nymphs.

You may want to consider trashing the mattress if it is infested.  But hey, it’s already dismantled isn’t it?

Cut your grass. Cut your ticks.

Ticks get ticked at short grass.

Ticks love to hide in tall grass.A great way to keep ticks from your yard is to simply cut your grass. Tall grass offers prime real estate for ticks.

Ticks love to hang out on grass, and the more you have the more burrow in. A tick will leap off the grass onto you or your pet the moment you brush against a blade.

You won’t notice a tick sitting in tall grass because a tick is very small. A tick only becomes noticeable after engorging itself on your blood. So don’t believe a blood-engorged tick when he tells you he hasn’t been up to no good. He has.

To recap: Cutting your grass will take away prime tick territory. And it goes without saying, stay away from tall grasses the next time you go for a walk.
